Perpendicular bisector of a chord

OBJECTIVE
To verify that perpendicular bisector of a chord passes through the centre of the circle.

PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE
Concept of circle and it's properties
Concept of perpendicular bisector of a line

MATERIALS REQUIRED
Coloured glazed paper
Colours
White paper

PROCEDURE
Take a coloured paper and draw a circle of any radius with centre O
Draw a chord AB ( Image 1)

                                                                             Image 1

Fold the circle in such a way that B falls on A and press to get a crease ( Image 2)

Image 2

OBSERVATION
The centre of the circle lies on the crease ( perpendicular bisector of AB)

                                                                            Image 3

CONCLUSION
It is Verified that the perpendicular bisector of the chord passes through the centre of the circle.
